My Family
There are three words to describe my family. They are "incredible, fantastic and sporty". In my family, there are eight people. They are my father, mother, four brothers, my sister and I. My parents were born and raised on the beautiful island of Tonga, then they came to New Zealand to start a new life for us.

We live at Roseway place, just off Ridgeway. Our extreme 4 bedroom house with a big back yard is near Sacred Heart and Glendowie. It’s a good area because we can walk down to shops, go to parks and go for walks around the block. It was a peaceful place where there is no screaming, yelling, or people chucking stones. There are just normal children chatting or wandering around the streets.

We moved there last year on October the 26th. We moved there because we were living with our uncle and aunt as an extended family and we wanted more privacy for us and for them as well. We enjoy each other’s company.

My Saddest Moment

One Night everyone was sleeping safe and sound. It was the 7th of July, 2008. My baby sister had passed away in the early hours of the morning. My sister’s death was so devastating and hurtful for me. It was the saddest moment in my entire life. I felt deep pain within me.

I could still picture the terrifying moment. My older sister rang the ambulance but the ambulance couldn’t help. So the forensic people came and took my sister’s body and cleaned her up. Mum rang dad up and told him what had happened. My dad couldn’t imagine what happened. My parents arranged everything for the funeral.

Then it was time to say our goodbyes.

My favourite Shoe Brand

My favourite brand of shoes is Nike. The Nike brand has a tick and is very popular around the world. The reason why I like this brand for shoes is because they can last long, is good for going out and it suits any occasion.
The Nike shoes I have now, for example are white and black and have lasted 3 years. The only reason why I don’t wear my Nike Shoes now is because they are too tight on me.

When you go and buy Nikes, pick one that you like, looks good on you and then make sure you take care of them. They may be expensive but are guaranteed to be very comfortable to wear.

Nike is my favourite brand and I will never go without them. They have taken care of my feet and I’m sure that once one uses them, they get hooked on for life. You should buy Nike shoes and never go anywhere without a shoe that has a Nike tick on it.

Careers Expo 2010

On Friday the 6th of August, the Year 8 students were given the opportunity to travel down to the ASB Show grounds at Green Lane. There was an atmosphere of excitement as we prepared to catch the bus. Rooms 8 and 9 were in the same bus with our teachers and the singing competition started as soon as the buses started moving. I think Room 9 won the singing competition because our Lead Singer, Mokani got all the Room 9 children motivated. Our teacher smiled at us to show that he appreciated our efforts.

When we got to the Show grounds, we were put into our groups. The first thing we did was look for a career and what was required to be in that career. The first career stand we looked at was the Navy because it looked exciting. We took some booklets and other things to do with being in the Navy.

The next career booth we went to was the DJ booth. It was cool because we made our own beats and tunes. The man in charge gave us some bags and books. After we finished from there, we moved on to the Arts Block and we took some books on tips to be the best at drawing. We went to many other booths and began to feel tired.

When we finished, the teachers called us to line up in our classes then they checked the roll to make sure everyone was in their class lines. We then made our way to the bus. When we got into the bus we started singing songs. The Room 8 boys started singing again but we were louder and better. And that was our day at the Careers Expo 2010.

How to protect yourself from the sun

How to Protect Yourself from the Sun
The sun is our main source of energy and we can’t survive without it. Even though we need the sun, too much of it can be fatal.

There are many things we can do to protect ourselves when we are out in the sun. Protection is all about keeping your skin healthy and shielding your eyes from the glare of the sun.
When you go swimming or any place where you are exposed to the sun, you should:
• wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
• use an umbrella to protect your skin.
• use sun block.
• wear a hat on your head.
• wear sunscreen so you don’t get cancer or melanoma.
When you have done all that, you can enjoy having a safe time in the sun.

In case of a fire at Tamaki Intermediate School the following steps must be taken if you are a student in Room 9 :
Step one: Dial 111 for the Fire Service.
Step two: If there is a fire and the alarm has not gone off, turn it on.
Step three: Year 8 students are to take the left stairwell facing the field and the Year 7 students will take the right one down to the netball courts. WALK! DO NOT RUN!
Step four: Check to see that no one is left behind.
Step five: When at the Netball Courts, sit in two lines.
Step six: The teacher will check the roll to see that everyone is present.
Step seven: Remain at assembly point until the teacher dismisses you.
